Manchester City Council offers a range of placements to support students’ practice experience. Placements include an induction to the team and the service area. They are organised in collaboration with University partners and supported by our workforce development teams. Manchester City Council provide access to case management systems via phones and laptops and provides a range of opportunities for shadowing experienced workers, training, undertaking assessments and developing plans, completing reviews and undertaking multi-agency working with a range of partner organisations.
Manchester City Council Children’s Services offers placements to all our GM universities and offers Step Up to Social Work placements, Frontline Student Units and Social Work Apprenticeships.
Manchester City Council progression enables students to apply for social work roles during their final placement. Those who are successful will complete the Assessed and Supported Year in Employment during their first year and will then access career development opportunities as part of a three year consolidation programme.
Children’s Placements can be provided in the following areas (subject to availability):
- Duty and Assessment teams
- Court and Locality teams
- Cared for Children’s teams
We also have some placements available in Fostering, New Arrivals (UASC) and Children with Disabilities teams.
Manchester City Council Adult Services offers placements to all our GM universities and Social Work Apprenticeships.
Adult Placements can be provided in the following areas (subject to availability):
- Integrated neighbourhood teams
- Substance misuse teams
- Homeless teams
- Sensory teams
- Community Learning Disability team
- Transition team
- Hospital Discharge to Assess team
- Community Response teams
- Adult MASH (Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub)
