Salford City Council placement opportunities


Salford Adult and Children’s Social Care offers a range of social work placements that can support student’s practice experience. Placements are organised in collaboration with university partners and our workforce development team. 

Salford Adult Social Care provides a robust student induction, monthly support groups along with training and development opportunities led by the social work development lead. All students will have placement opportunities on operational social work teams and will have learning opportunities linked to all aspects of social work practice with adults including assessments, interventions, safeguarding, mental capacity and best interests. 

Salford Adult Social care provide an Assessed and Supported Year In Employment Programme were newly qualified social workers they will be allocated an experienced social worker to act as their assessor and have access to monthly support groups focused on relevant topics such as, critical reflection, linking theory to practice, strengths based working and direct observation of practice. Social workers in Adults Social care can then continue to progress through the advanced training courses that we offer such as, Best Interest Assessor, Practice Education and Approved Mental Health Practitioner. As an experienced social worker you may wish to complete the Level Three Programme and there are also further development opportunities for those wishing to progress into leadership and management roles. 

Salford Children’s Services provides a variety of student placement support from induction, shadowing opportunities to regular student support groups alongside the support of a dedicated Practice Educator and team support. 

Salford Children’s Service offers a Bespoke ASYE programme to all newly qualified social workers, providing tailored training opportunities, access to an ASYE assessor and mentor, drop in session for ASYE portfolio and other support groups which are all part of the Salford Children’s Academy.
