Wigan Council offers a range of placements that can support students practice experience. Placements are structured and well organised in collaboration with University partners and our workforce development teams. Wigan Council can provide access to case management systems, multi-agency working, a robust induction for all students, and provides opportunity for students to come together with the workforce and as a student cohort. Students are encouraged to attend the social work forums and student forums to reflect on their experiences, gain support, and influence the development of the wider workforce.
Wigan Council supports all their students to continue their professional development during their placement, ensuring they receive the best opportunities to strengthen their practice ahead of commencing their career in social work. Students are provided with a comprehensive understanding of the directorate as they are integrated within their own teams, service areas and within the wider workforce.
Wigan Council offers placements to all our GM universities and offers Step up placements for those on the programme.
