Practice education training programme

Practice Educator Training

GMSWA Practice Learning Steering Group has collaboratively developed a new blended training programme for social workers in response to the Covid-19 pandemic, remote working, and increasing demand for flexible, high-quality Practice Educator Training.

Traditional training models lacked the adaptability needed to meet current challenges. Our new blended model maintains the same standards but offers greater flexibility through:

  • Online modules with audio-visual content, activities, and quizzes
  • Practice Educator workbook for reflections, notes, and tools
  • face-to-face workshop covering induction, supervision, struggling students, power, and anti-discriminatory practice

This format supports different learning styles and allows learners to progress at their own pace, while the workshop consolidates learning through group discussion and interaction.

The programme includes modules for:

  • Practice Educator Training
  • Stage 2 Practice Education

To enrol, please contact your organisation’s workforce development lead or university placement contact for PVI sectors. For full details, refer to the GMSWA Practice Education Training Guide.

Following completion of the on-line Me Learning Practice Educator programme you then book and attend a face to face workshop.   Booking on the workshop is performed through ME Learning when the on-line content has been completed.

Availability for booking is staggered to encourage you to book on the nearest workshop to prevent long periods between the online and face to face teaching.

It is important to note that completion of the Me Learning PE programme, workbook and workshop is only the beginning of the training. After this training you will support a student, then complete and submit your Stage 1 portfolio to the Practice Educator Professional Standards (PEPS) Panel, if successful you will then be certified as a Practice Educator (at stage 1).
