The following documents give the Panel Process and latest Panel dates, and the assessment packs (workbooks) that need to be completed for submission to the panel.  The workbooks open as PDF's but once downloaded can be opened in word to allow editing.

Apprenticeship Mentor and PE Training

GMSWA has agreed that social workers in Greater Manchester who are working as mentors, with apprentice social workers, should now be able to undertake the GMSWA practice educator training and then produce evidence to enable them to achieve Stage 1 status (PEPS1).  This will apply to apprentice mentors who are qualified as social workers for at least 2 years and who are working with an apprentice within one of the 10 Local Authorities.  The placement period must be for at least 4 months.

• Mentors will still be required to undertake the practice educator training, attend the PE workshop and the produce a portfolio of evidence to be submitted at the PEPS assessment panel.  Mentors will normally be expected to undertake the training prior to working with the apprentice they are supporting.
• Apprentice mentors undertake their role in a slightly different way to practice educators managing a traditional placement, so we have produced an assessment process that more readily recognises these differences but also still requires that the apprentice mentor produce a learning agreement, interim and final report for their apprentice.  These documents will be contained within a new bespoke Stage 1 assessment pack. (learning agreement, interim reivew and final report). Completion of these documents will enable mentors to meet the PEPS requirements.
